It was Poison Ivy that made me love the Cramps and then garage-rich rockabilly as a whole. She’s a menacing female sneer in a male-dominated genre; her hair hides half a dozen switchblades and damn can she shred. Now that the group has dissolved, we miss her desperately. With her absence in touring music, it’s easy to understand why tribute bands resurrect the Cramps’ sounds, in fact it’s as clear as Ivy’s Plexiglas guitar. On Friday, Dallas’ Gorehounds summon their inner teenage werewolves at The Church in a showcase called Scarlette Switches Divine Decadence Pt. II. Adding to the empowerment, our local bad girls of burlesque, The Lollie Bombs, promise to keep women in the spotlight. They’ll have help with all-gal act Electro-Schock Machine.
