If you’ve never had a proper welcome to the city of Irving, then by golly, you are in luck. Because if the dirty white-top of Texas Stadium isn’t satisfying your hospitable standards, then the Irving Archives and Public Library will sure try to. The two departments present Welcome to Irving, a retrospective of the suburb’s history going back to farming communities of the 1800s up to the modern development of the stadium and DFW Airport. The exhibit is highlighted by actual letters and journals from early settlers, along with styles throughout the decades, phases of the airport and stadium’s construction and details on the city’s growth following World War II. And to enjoy the rich history of Irving, just head on over to downtown Dallas. Say what? Yep, the Old Red Museum hosts the event. Don’t fret. The restored building is a sight in itself. With beautifully revived interiors and a resurrected clock tower, it’s just as historic (if not more so) as Welcome to Irving will be.
