In the coming weeks, there’ll be JFK media rehashes out the yin-yang, conspiracy theories resurfacing like rubber ducks in a tub. But El Centro College takes a different approach with the fashion exhibition Jackie and Main Street, focusing not on the darkness of that November in 1963, but instead on the style of the era and the sartorial influence that fashion icon Jackie Kennedy had on ordinary women. Located in the H. Paxton Moore Fine Art Gallery of El Centro, 801 Main St., the exhibition will feature clothing and accessories reminiscent of Jackie’s style, curated by Ken Weber and Greg Kelly, owners of the Vintage Martini boutique, as well as pieces from Weber’s private family collection. Juxtaposed with the stunning 1960s fashions will be documents and images related to the assassination from the Dallas Municipal Archives that lend context without veering too far into the ugliness of the day. Opening for the exhibition is Monday and it will remain on view through Friday, December 13. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays, 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays. Admission is free. Email rgarrett@dcccd.edu for more information.
