Could you survive in the wilderness? If left to your own devices, could you secure the basics–water, shelter, food? If you’ve ever walked through the forest and wondered, “Would that mushroom kill me?”, then join the Fort Worth Nature Center’s Edible Plant Walk. A guide will discuss local plants and which parts of the plant can be eaten, along with how these plants were traditionally used. The guide will also cover which plants should be avoided–for instance, with mushrooms out there with names like Destroying Angel and Death’s Cap, resist eating unidentified fungi. The walk is from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Forth Worth Nature Center, 9601 Fossil Ridge Road in Fort Worth. Cost for the event is $5 plus admission to the center ($4 for adults, $3 for seniors, $2 for children ages 3 to 17), and members get in free. Dress appropriately for walking and bring water.
