The best Christmas events are all tagged “Contains mature themes and images. Not suitable for children.” Because if we’re all being honest, Christmas brings the most mature language out of all of us and sometimes causes us to produce some mature themes and imagery too, but that varies from person to person. That’s probably part of the reason why David Sedaris’ The Santaland Diaries has been so successful. The story of Sedaris as an out-of-control department-store elf gives everybody involved permission to admit that there’s a whole lot about the Christmas season that’s wacky at the best of times and just fucked up at the worst. Certainly, you don’t trust Santa as much anymore. WaterTower Theatre, 15650 Addison Road, Addison, premiers its run of the stage version of Santaland Diaries at 8 p.m. Friday, and the show runs until the 29th. Tickets are $27.50 and available at watertowertheatre.org.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Dec. 13. Continues through Dec. 29, 2013
