What do you get when you put more than 200 artists in one place displaying, demonstrating and selling their creations? A paintball tournament without the balls. No, that’s not right. Actually, what you get is ARTFEST 2008, a juried event bringing together said artists at Fair Park. It goes down Memorial Day Weekend and expects to entertain close to 20,000 matrons and patrons of the “aahts” with live bands, festival food, a cultural stage and a kids’ area. In addition to the ARTFEST proper on Saturday and Sunday, there will be a Wine Stroll Preview Party on Friday evening, which includes an art preview, “meet and greet,” complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres and a weekend pass to ARTFEST. Proceeds of the event benefit numerous musical, dramatic, visual and other arts organizations. Become an art-official 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The Wine Stroll Preview Party, $20 per person, is 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. General admission is $6 per day for adults; children younger than 6 are free. Advance discount tickets and Wine Stroll tickets can be purchased at Tom Thumb for $5 to $15. For more information, visit artfest500.com or call 214-565-0200.
