This Friday, the Filmmobile, a straight-outta-LA school bus catering to all things cinematic, sets up shop outside the Kessler Theatre for a night of solar-powered film screenings, live music, and bingo under the stars.
Currently in the midst of a nationwide road trip, the bus is stopping in cities all over America hell-bent on screening experimental short films in non-traditional venues, hence its temporary digs outside the Kessler. Throughout the course of the evening, the Filmmobile folks will be projecting a steady flow of short films onto side of the gutted, navy blue school bus.
A project of the Los Angeles-based non-profit Echo Park Film Center, the Filmmobile is much more than just a cinema on wheels — it’s also a fully interactive film school, complete with a rotating crop of workshops that teach the finer points of filmmaking to any and all interested parties.
During Filmmobile’s stay in Dallas, fresh off a one-night street screening in Fort Worth, they’ll offer two filmmaking workshops — one focusing on animation direction, the other focusing on stop-motion animation. Films created during the afternoon workshops will be screened later that evening. Just think, you could be a star. Well, for five minutes anyway.
The Filmmobile will be stationed outside of the Kessler from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. this Friday. All workshops, screenings, and late-night bingo sessions are free. Visit filmmobile.org for more information.
