Cognitive Dissonance Cognitive Dissonance is something most adults understand, and relate to. That two things you believe or value could be in direct conflict with one another is a frustrating, anxiety-filled way to live in this gray-shaded world. The new series of work by Dallas-based artist Gaeb Cardinale shares a name with this psychological struggle. He juxtaposes vibrant blocks of color with stark, cold backgrounds to create pieces that pop. During the opening reception for his exhibition at Two Bronze Doors (5732 Richmond Ave.) from 7-10 p.m. Saturday, a dj will spin tunes and Braindead Brewpub will pour drinks. RO2 Art’s On Paper and Crappity Elves Right now, RO2 Art has two wonderful shows on display. In the main space is a show curated by Gary Farrelly that features works on paper. The variety in the show is impressive and engaging. And don’t be surprised if you hear giggles coming from the bathroom where visitors are treated to the naughty elves of Brian K. Jones’ imagining.
Karlo X. Ramos’ Photo Show at Epocha The opening for this show actually happens on Wednesday night, which is hardly the weekend, but there will be cool photos by Ramos (occasional contributor to the Dallas Observer) in a cool shop with an open bar, which is all pretty cool in our book. Stop by Epocha from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday for the fun times, brought to you by Red Bull Sound Select.
Dreamarchitectronics This is the final weekend to see the dream building machine at the Dallas Contemporary. Stop by any day through Sunday to see the art exhibition that concocts dreams for you.
Will you step up to support Dallas Observer this year?
We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. If the Dallas Observer matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.
