The thing you most want to do on a national holiday? We surveyed 137 imaginary Dallas-area people and came up with these results: 47 percent said sleep, 32 percent said some combination of or something similar to “drink beer, watch Jerry Springer and Oprah” [if on a weekday, we assume] and bitch about what’s waiting to be done at work the next day, 14 percent said “honoring the actual holiday” (potential for higher percentage if holiday had been specified) and 7 percent inexplicably stated “running.” This zany response must account for the 23rd Annual Flagpole 8K Road Race & Tadpole 2K Fun Run/Walk taking place this Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Registration is $30 on race day, and the patriotic pole racing begins atop Flagpole Hill, Northwest Highway and E. Lawther Drive. Registration and packet pick-up is available at Run On!, 5400 E. Mockingbird Lane. Registration closes 10 minutes prior to racing. Visit active.com.
