What better way to stave off the holiday pounds than to run a marathon? Join thousands of other runners on Sunday morning for the 42nd annual MetroPCS Dallas White Rock Marathon. Events include the full marathon, a half marathon, a 5-person relay race, a Mayor’s Race 5K and a kids’ 1-mile race. The marathon course is flat and fast, with beautiful scenery for runners who speed through the Arts District, on to Highland Park, around White Rock Lake and down historic Swiss Avenue back to Fair Park. The half marathon and relay races have altered routes, although the relay does cover the entire 26.2 mile course. All events begin in Fair Park, 1200 S. Second Ave. Proceeds benefit the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. For more information and registration, call 972-498-1136 or visit runtherock.com. The race kicks off at 8 a.m.
