The Bible has long been a rich source from which movies, television and the theater have drawn inspiration. From Jesus Christ Superstar to The Last Temptation of Christ to that awful hippie nightmare Godspell. Some of these have been met with criticism, some with reverence and some with an involuntary gag reflex–but whatever the response, no one can deny that the good ol’ Bible is jam-packed with tons of exciting stories ripe for adaptation. The latest offering in this grand tradition is In the Beginning, a new production at the Dallas Theater Center. What sets this production apart is that the stories of Adam, Eve and Noah are told with text taken directly from the book of Genesis. Also, interspersed among the play’s vignettes are re-enactments of actual interviews with Dallas area residents talking about what the stories in Genesis mean to them, with a talented cast bringing these tales to life in a way that people of many faiths will enjoy. Catch In The Beginning at the Dallas Theater Center through Feb. 15th. Visit Dallastheatercenter.org for tickets and details.
Tuesdays-Thursdays, 7:30 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Jan. 21. Continues through Feb. 15, 2009
