The word “freedom” has been hijacked by jingoistic fascists, but something good comes from its misuse. Ever since “freedom fries” and operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, you can substitute the word “bullshit” when you hear “freedom.” The Sean Hannity Freedom Concert, consisting of overpriced cornball country and conservative talk-show host blathering, is a good example. While you can’t fault the thing for giving to the Freedom Alliance’s scholarship fund for the children of killed U.S. troops (except, what about Iraqi kids?), the goal of the Alliance–founded by Ollie North, who speaks at the concerts–is “to advance the American heritage of freedom by honoring and encouraging military service,” which sounds like freedom. The 2007 Hannity Freedom Concert featuring Montgomery Gentry and Lee Greenwood is 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Nokia Theatre, 1001 Performance Place in Grand Prairie. Tickets are $45 to $100.
