How far has the gentleman’s sport of pugilism fallen? Sure, there’s ultimate fighting on cable and there might be humble backyard brawls out there, complete with lawn chairs to the spine, but whatever happened to punching dudes in the head with class and dignity? Well, ESPN’s Friday Night Fight offers just that, returning to the basics of boxing with a series of matches between both seasoned boxers and amateur champions, including twelve rounds with world contenders John Molina and Marvin Quintero as well as a match between Olympians Shawn Estrada and Luis Yanez. The event takes place at a fitting locale for a nationally televised match, UTA’s new College Park Center, making this the first time these new digs have seen any sport other than basketball. The bell rings Friday, 7 pm, 601 S. Pecan Street, Arlington. Tickets range from $25 to $100. For more information visit showcaseboxing.com.

Will you step up to support Dallas Observer this year?
At the Dallas Observer, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $16,250 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of the Dallas Observer, now’s the time to give back.
