Yes, the rumors are true–there will be dachshunds. Clothed dachshunds, parading dachshunds, even racing dachshunds. Of course there will be other stuff at Addison’s annual Oktoberfest–after all, this is one of the largest Oktoberfests outside of that one in Munich. While sipping on beer and nibbling at a sausage, you’ll enjoy plenty of entertainment. Take a tour through the German car show. Fancy yourself an excellent speller? Enter the German spelling contest and tell them how gut unterhalten is really spelled. Then use it in a sentence. Or have them use it in a sentence. You might try your hand at bier barrel rolling (finally, something to do with an empty keg), and if you’ve got a pair of lederhosen, bring them–sure, the yodeling contest is for pre-selected contestants only, but you never know if someone will drop out and give you your shot at glory. Speaking of lederhosen, between the spelling bee and the dachshund parade there will be polka, including that mightiest of polka bands, Denton’s Grammy-winning Brave Combo. Addison Oktoberfest takes place from 5 to 11 p.m. Thursday, 5 p.m. to midnight Friday, 12 p.m. to midnight Saturday and 12 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Addison Circle Park, 4970 Addison Circle Drive. Tickets are $5. Call 1-800-ADDISON or visit addisontexas.net.

Thu., Sept. 18, 5-11 p.m.; Fri., Sept. 19, 5 p.m.-midnight; Sat., Sept. 20, noon-midnight; Sun., Sept. 21, 12-6 p.m., 2008
