It’s well into August and you haven’t made a dent in that super-ambitious summer reading list you made for yourself back in May, have you? Whether you aimed to catch up on the classics or relax with the latest beach-reads, time is just not on your side. Poolside boozing and summer blockbusters don’t help either.
How many times have you aspired to read the literary canon? Or reread them since you weren’t exactly paying attention back in English class? Between work, happy hour and Dan Brown, trying to remain well-read is like constantly running on a treadmill. You’re never quite able to gain any ground.
Next week Runway Theatre in Grapevine (215 North Dooley St.) is giving you a rare chance to close the gap and impress your friends with literary your grandeur.
Opening August 16, Runway will present All the Great Books (Abridged) written by Reed Martin and Austin Tichenor. The three-person cast of characters comprises an ambitious English professor, a coach and an overwhelmed student. This fast-paced R-rated comedy covers 89 of the most highly revered literary titles in history. In 90 minutes. Including intermission. Ambitious? Yes. Ridiculous? Most definitely. Entertaining? Highly likely. Expected literary retention? We’ll have to get back to you on that one.

All the Great Books (Abridged) will have a limited run from August 16-25 on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. Tickets start at $12 and can be purchased online or by calling 817-488-4842.
