It’s hard to imagine being a woman in the workforce a few decades ago, when we were seen as sexual objects and not as intellectual equals. Sure, we could keep a home spotless and cook a mean meatloaf, but when it came to complex things like problem solving and conflict resolution, popular theory held that we were better off just looking pretty and answering the phone. And were we included in difficult financial decisions? Nooooo, but it was definitely safe to let us fetch the coffee–even better if we did it in a fitted dress, perfectly coiffed hair and full makeup. Today, 15 Fortune 500 companies are led by woman–and while that number may seem paltry at first, it shows how far our gender has come. And getting there sure wasn’t easy. Come see a group of everyday women fight for equality in Made in Dagenham, a film showing at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth this Friday through Sunday. The film takes place in Dagenham, England, and follows a group of brave females who were forward-thinking enough to fight for their civil rights.
