The Dallas art scene has been steadily growing for the last decade, and the development of Dragon Street and the AT&T Performing Arts center has helped catapult the city into a real artistic contender. If you haven’t yet gotten involved in the growing art scene–for shame–head over to Holly Johnson Gallery to check out Back and Forth: Celebrating Five Years, a retrospective on the last five years of the gallery’s contemporary exhibitions. The show features work from more than 30 artists, including John Adelman, Otis Jones and William Steiger. These artists, like many others in the exhibition, aren’t just local names. Some of their work can be viewed in permanent collections across the U.S., like the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. So do yourself a favor and skip the latest, predictable romantic comedy at the theater and instead become a part of the local arts scene. The gallery is located at 1411 Dragon St., and the exhibition continues until May 1. For more information, call 214-369-0169 or visit hollyjohnsongallery.com.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: March 27. Continues through May 1, 2010
