Walmart may be a conglomerate shopping center full of the “lowest prices guaranteed,” but greeting card aisles are just more conglomerates hoping to woo customers with their versions of the same cheesy lines. I mean, how many cards one can get at a wedding saying, “Best wishes!” or “A toast to a long and happy life!”? Let’s just say the trashcan was my best friend after graduation. Call me out-of-the-ordinary, but I’d prefer to send something that won’t face death by shredding. Make a date with art, gocco style! Developed in 1977 by Noboru Hayama in Japan, print gocco is a printing system that imprints a thermal design on paper. If that sounds neat, than you don’t want to miss the Paper Works by Paper Nerds gocco celebration and workshop on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Participation fees are $95 in advance and $100 at the door. For more information, call 214-827-0200 or visit papernerds.blogspot.com.
