In How Starbucks Saved My Life, Michael Gates Gill, a Yale-educated advertising executive, is on top of the world until he’s stricken with downsizing, an affair, the resultant fun baby, a crumbling family, brain cancer and no health care. When the manager at his favorite black-staffed Starbucks offers a job, he takes it. Reviews suggest a trite, self-congratulating lesson about entitlement, prejudice and taking satisfaction from a perfect triple latte. Tom Hanks optioned it. Still, my ugly side relishes a blueblood’s comeuppance. Gill signs How Starbucks Saved My Life 7 p.m. Thursday at Barnes & Noble Lincoln Park, 7700 W. Northwest Highway, Suite 300. Call 214-739-1124.
