Grease isn’t just a film (or a Broadway production, or a soundtrack) — it’s a rite of passage for us girls. Where so many teen movies relegate that preoccupation of the teen mind — sex — to subtext, in Grease it’s all right up front: If sweet Sandra wants to really fit in with her friends and keep her man, she’s gonna have to lose the poodle skirt — figuratively and literally. And speaking of losing the poodle skirt, Viva Dallas Burlesque will do so with a flourish as part of a show where Grease is, indeed, the word. The tassel-twirling lovelies of Texas’ largest burlesque show give the beloved teenage paean to transformation their all beginning at 9 p.m. Friday in the Lakewood Theater, 1825 Abrams Road. Performers Miss Malicious, Dapper John and Iris Le’Mour dance and titillate as they guide you through the summer nights and drive-in movies that’ll give you something to sing about. Tickets are $19 to $33; visit
vivadallasburlesque.com.
