Sick of hearing Mozart and Wagner over and over again? Maybe it’s time to strap on some Mahler. Gustav Mahler was a musical genius, and like most geniuses he didn’t receive the amount of success and respect he deserved during his lifetime. But at least he didn’t hack off his ear and give it to a prostitute. Instead he took his monumental, emotionally charged, envelope-pushing symphonies and stuck them to the Man. Of course the Man didn’t start to fully appreciate Mahler’s genius until 60 years after his death. Still, better late than never, right? Come hear the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra give Mahler his props Thursday through Sunday at the Bass Performance Hall, Fourth and Calhoun streets in Fort Worth. Visit fwsymphony.org.
