I’m pretty sure we all know the story of the Lion King, but who couldn’t use a refresher, right? Hakuna Matata! The story starts out with Simba, the heir to the Pride Lands throne, disobeying his father, Mufasa, and visiting a graveyard. Mufasa saves Simba from the crapface hyenas that Mufasa’s jerkward brother, Scar, enlists to kill Simba, but dies on the mission. Scar then convinces Simba it was all his fault and banishes him from Pride Rock. Such anguish! Now imagine it all set to song and dance in the musical adaptation. Hey, it was already loaded with hits but the musical loads it up a little more. Not to mention the spectacular costumes, sets and killer abs when half-shirts are invoked. Newsweek called it “a landmark event in entertainment” and who’s going to argue with that? Tickets are on sale at dallassummermusicals.org. Opening night is at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Fair Park and the show runs until Sunday, October 20.
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: Oct. 2. Continues through Oct. 20, 2013
