One of my favorite holiday traditions as a young child was our annual reading of the classic holiday tale The Polar Express. Now thanks to Robert Zemeckis’ love of special effects and budgets that could make a third world dictator jealous, we no longer have to rely on our imaginations and literacy to experience Chris Van Allsburg’s timeless story of wonderment and innocence. The movies can do all that for us! The best part about Fair Park’s screening of The Polar Express in the Marine Square near Parry Avenue is that you don’t have to pay for it. You can experience someone else’s vision of this famous holiday tale completely free of charge at 7 p.m. Thursday at Fair Park (1121 Ave.). Egon Spengler was right. Print is dead.
