If plays could be judged on their titles alone, this one would sweep every awards show including Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice just because. It’s called The Motherfucker with the Hat and it regionally premieres at Kitchen Dog Theater (3120 McKinney Ave.) on Valentine’s Day, natch. Motherfucker is a tale of vengeance gone hilariously awry when Jackie finds a strange hat in his girlfriend’s apartment. Jackie is a recovering alcoholic and he really thought things were turning around when he met Veronica, and now? This damn hat. Jackie sets out to do the only thing he can — track the bastard down and deliver the swift hand of “hey, asshole, that’s my girlfriend-y” justice. Trouble is, revenge isn’t really his strong suit. Kitchen Dog Theater calls the play “fast-paced and foul-mouthed.” It was also nominated for a 2011 Tony Award if you scorecard that kind of thing. Tickets for opening night are $30 and available at kitchendogtheater.org. Motherfucker runs through March 15.
