At first we mistook Honk Jr. to be a French adaptation of the 1979 autobiography of Bocephus, Living Proof. However, though it would certainly be entertaining to see an actor sing “Family Tradition” in a slight French accent, this was not to be. Instead Honk Jr. adapts the time-honored tale of The Ugly Duckling as penned by one Hans Christian Andersen, in which a baby duck named Ugly (“U-G-L-Y/You ain’t got no alibi/You ugly!/Hey! Hey!/You ugly!”) falls in love with a beautiful swan named Penny. Sounds a little like The Oh in Ohio, only I don’t remember Danny DeVito turning into a swan after he rocked Parker Posey’s world. Catch the kid-friendly Honk Jr. this weekend at the Creative Arts Theatre and School, 1100 W. Randol Mill Road in Arlington. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Friday, 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10. Call 817-861-CATS or visit creativearts.org.
