The dog days of summer are three months away, but we’re all for a dog-centric afternoon that promises canine comedy. With contests like “Doggie Bulldozer,” “Stupid Pet Tricks” and “Best Costume,” dog owners will be wiggling on their backs in happiness. Operation Kindness’ 12th annual walk-a-thon starts with a leadoff by Clifford the Big Red Dog. Special booths include a low-cost ($15) microchip clinic, a Doggie Mall and a tribute to Mercy, an abused dog brought to Operation Kindness, who later died and whose alleged abuser was caught during an onslaught of media coverage. Collect sponsorship donations for the walk-a-thon; proceeds benefit Operation Kindness. Pre-registration is $15, $5 for each Canine Contest. Don your finest leash and head to Dog Day Afternoon at Bob Woodruff Park, 2601 San Gabriel Drive in Plano, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Call 972-418-PAWS, ext. 261 or visit operationkindness.org.
Sat., June 10, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
