Never mind our beliefs, sometimes an icon simply inspires us. This paper’s own Jesse Hyde researched such an example when countless believers flocked to see the Virgen de Guadalupe in an Oak Cliff tree (“Do You See What I See?,” December 29, 2005). Chicana artist Santa Barraza presents mythic figures and icons so important to many in her vivid exhibition Santa Barraza: La Mano Poderosa, opening with a reception at 5:30 p.m. at the Latino Cultural Center, 2600 Live Oak St. The show runs through April 1.
