Keep Dallas Observer Free
We’re aiming to raise $10,000 by April 26. Your support ensures Dallas Observer can continue watching out for you and our community. No paywall. Always accessible. Daily online and weekly in print.
Leave your e-readers at home and stock up on bookmarks, because Dallas’ newest publishing house is throwing a party. Publisher Will Evans will be unveiling the cover art for the first round of books from his company, Deep Vellum. These are no ordinary indie tomes however. Beginning this fall, Deep Vellum will be publishing works by some of the world’s most acclaimed contemporary writers, never before published in English — writers such as the eclectic Icelandic mayor Jon Gnarr, experimental French author Anne Garréta and Carmen Boullosa, who has been called “Mexico’s greatest woman writer,” among others have already signed with Deep Vellum. The festivities start at 7 p.m. June 16, at The Wild Detectives, 314 W. Eighth St. in Oak Cliff. Be sure to get there early as the venue is cozy and might fill up quickly, or be prepared for some serious elbow rubbing with fellow word-nerds. More information is available at deepvellum.org.
