What if it were possible to pass through a portal in time, travel back to November 22, 1963, and prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy? Would you be willing to face the big bouffants, the racism, sexism, homophobia and cheesy fashion sense of the early ’60s to stop LONE GUNMAN Lee Harvey Oswald? (Yeah, that’s right. We said it. Lone gunman. Get over it already.) We hope you said “yes,” firstly because preventing a murder is generally the right thing to do. Secondly because we figure saving JFK would halt the decades of conspiracy mongering and self-involved, boomer-generation whiny angst about lost Camelot. (Added bonus, a living JFK might cause a young Oliver Stone to rethink his career choice.) The big JFK “what if” is the subject of novelist Stephen King’s upcoming 11/22/63, a 1,000-page opus concerning a Maine school teacher’s time traveling adventure to save the president. Frankly, we prefer King’s takes on demonic clowns, haunted hotels and vampires. Nevertheless, the King of Horror will be speaking about his new book at The Majestic Theater, 1925 Elm St., at 7 p.m. Thursday. The event benefits The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza.
