The first instrument I ever recall “playing” was a player piano, which, really, is just a piano that requires absolutely no skill to play. Really, no skill, whatsoever: You just pump the foot pedals, and the piano tells the keys which notes to play. As such, at age 3, I played the crap out of a version of The Greatest American Hero theme song that would’ve taken six hands (at least) to play. It was…awesome. So I can certainly identify with the new musical at the Artisan Center Theater (418 E. Pipeline Road in Hurst): I Love a Piano tells the story of composer Irving Berlin through the songs he’s written (“Puttin’ on the Ritz,” anyone?) and runs all month long (excluding Wednesdays and Sundays, and with matinee showings on Saturday afternoons). Tickets to Tuesday night’s 7:30 performance run $8 to $15 and can be purchased by calling the box office at 817-284-1200.
