Say what you will about Texas, but recognize that a state this big has a great many tales to tell. Its colorful history, climate and characters make Texas ripe for literature as spicy and meticulously crafted as its barbecue sauce. To honor our storytelling traditions, the University of North Texas presents Texas: A Literary Heritage, the first in a series of free literary symposiums. The inaugural event features four prominent Texas authors: Frank Thompson, Elmer Kelton, Robert Flynn and John Erickson. From the Alamo to the Baptist church, no topic is off-limits as these award-winning writers attempt to shed light on the literary legacy of the Lone Star State. Texas: A Literary Heritage takes place from 10:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Golden Eagle Suite of the University Union, one block west of Welch and West Prairie streets in Denton.
