Let’s face it: Valentine’s Day isn’t for everyone. For every happy couple exchanging chocolates and oversized teddy bears, there’s a heartbroken soul burning old photos or throwing darts at a mental image of “The One Who Got Away (And Took the Good Toaster with Them).” But this year, a North Texas rescue has devised a way to channel that romantic rage into something positive, and frankly, hilarious.

Enter Texas Rustlers Fat Cats Rescue, an organization with a name as fantastic as its latest fundraising idea. The organization is offering a unique service for the lovelorn and the scorned.

The concept is simple, petty and brilliant. For a mere $10 donation, the rescue will write the first name of your lousy ex (or perhaps a terrible boss, we aren’t judging) on a paper heart. They will then ceremoniously place said heart into a litter box. And then? They let nature — and their resident felines — take its course. It’s the ultimate “dumping,” really.

“Does love stink? We’ve got a fun way to turn heartache into help,” the rescue announced on Facebook. “You get playful closure, and the cats get much-needed support.”

It’s cheaper than therapy and significantly more satisfying than keying a car (which, legally speaking, we cannot recommend). Plus, your 10 bucks goes straight to helping chunky cats get healthy and find forever homes.

If you want to see the deed done, tune in. All the defiled hearts will be posted on the Texas Rustlers Facebook page on February 14 during their weekly adoption event. Because nothing screams “I’m over it” quite like watching a tabby bury your ex’s name in clumping clay.

Ready to purge your emotional baggage? You can donate via Venmo (@TexasRustlers), Zelle (theguineapigrescue@yahoo.com) or PayPal. Just leave a comment with the name you want on the heart.

Let the cats handle the crap this year. If you’re reading this to begin with, you’ve probably dealt with enough of it as is.
