Podiums are boring. A sculpture deserves a befitting platform, and while a rectangular box painted gallery white with a matte finish might be appropriate for formal work, pieces that veer toward the avant garde deserve something special. Or so believes fabric artist Chesley Williams, whose new show Consciousness Couture is sculptural work best rested on a human skull. (Let’s not call them hats.) Her new show is perched, slightly askew, at the Cliff Gallery (4849 W. Illinois Ave.) at Mountain View College. It’s a burst of ruffles and twisted cast-off materials brought to new life, on display through May 31. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and by appointment.
