As he puts it ad nauseum on his Web site, designer Johnny Earle founded his clothing company, Johnny Cupcakes, while selling his popular T-shirt designs out of the back of his beat-up ’89 Toyota Camry. The name came from a nickname given to him by fellow employees at a Newbury Comics in Massachusetts–a place he worked at while he was driving the aforementioned ’89 Toyota Camry–and the rest, as they say, is history. Now Earle is a multi-millionaire with stores in Boston and L.A., but he likes to keep it real, which is why he’ll be stopping by We Are 1976, 1902 N. Henderson Ave., at 8 p.m. Wednesday as part of his Johnny Cupcakes Suitcase Tour, which features exclusive T-shirt designs and fun treats at every stop. Just don’t ask him about his ’89 Toyota Camry, ’cause he will give you an earful. Call 214-821-1976 or visit weare1976.com.
