There was a time when it wasn’t good to be a nerd. Those were dark days, back when your obsession with Dungeons and Dragons basically meant you were a Satanist and the comic books in your backpack regularly earned you an ass-kicking. Now, nerds are catered to at every level: Hollywood lives and breathes nerddom and rakes in the cash as a result. And the jocks don’t give you wedgies anymore just because you were talking videogames in the locker room—mainly because their dads were having the same conversation at dinner last night. These are your days, my comic-book lovin’, Tolkien-reading, role-playin’ friends: EMBRACE THEM. And also make sure you get your tickets to Dallas Comic Con Fan Days, Friday, October 17 through Sunday, October 19 at the Irving Convention Center, 500 West Las Colinas Blvd. Inside, you’ll find a bevvy of things to geek out over: celebrity appearances from Elijah Wood (OMG, Frodo!), Paul McGann from “Doctor Who”, James and Oliver Phelps of “Harry Potter” fame, and old school Batman, Adam West. There’ll be autograph sessions, photo sessions, cos-play out the yin-yang, and tons of shopping and exhibits. Single day tickets range from $25 to $40; three-day passes start at $60. Visit dallascomiccon.com for more.
Saturdays, Sundays. Starts: Oct. 18. Continues through Oct. 19, 2014
