It may be more than a hundred degrees outside with no sign of letting up, but on Sunday, you’re gonna need to put on your coat … the brown one. At least, you will if you want to look the part for the annual Can’t Stop the Serenity event, benefitting Equality Now (fighting violence and discrimination against women and girls) and taking place at Lakewood Theater, 1825 Abrams Parkway. The North Texas Browncoats celebrate Joss Whedon’s Independence fighters, space travel, and, naturally, Nathan Fillion with an all-day event including screenings of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and Serenity. Stay busy between screenings with trivia and costume contests, raffles and auctions. In true Serenity style, ’coats look out for one another: While CSTS is global, this year’s local event is held in memory of Alanna Gallagher, a young Saginaw murder victim and daughter of two members of the North Texas Browncoats family. Tickets to Can’t Stop the Serenity (and T-shirts) are available online until Friday. They will be on sale Sunday when doors open at noon. Visit northtexasbrowncoats.com for purchasing and event details.
