Big on the group exhibition format, Cohn Drennan Contemporary brings another collaborative show for your mixed-media enjoyment. An annual presentation of artists who have not yet shown at the gallery, the 2012 Summer Group Exhibition features Michelle Brandley, whose paintings reflect ideas of self-worth in a celebrity-driven culture; M. Kate Helmes, who produces “clothing sculptures” introspectively questioning the idea of human connectivity; Joshua King, a found-object installation artist who uses “banal objects and imagery from the everyday to rework them with elegant, modern formal gestures; and painter Drew Merritt, whose paintings evoke empathy for his subjects by creating “visual biographies.” In addition, Rusty Ayrton Chapman’s DMA award-winning video, Erecting Monuments to the Gods, constructs an apocalyptic creation story through stop-motion videography. The show runs through July 28, and you can catch Cohn Drennan’s newly discovered stars Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1107 Dragon St. Call 214-708-8051 or visit cohndrennancontemporary.com for more details.
