Independent Journalism in Dallas Needs You
We need to raise $12,500 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Despite their gallant efforts to combat eons of genetic hard-wiring a majority of heterosexual males -regardless of how progressive or chaste they may be- remain compelled to sneak a furtive glance at the female form when the chance presents itself. Cursed by evolution to be visual creatures, modern man must fight a constant battle with biology in a valiant attempt to avoid unintentionally creeping women out. Fortunately the continued resurgence of burlesque has provided gentlemen (and plenty of women) with ample opportunities to get an eyeful without feeling like leering perverts. Case in point- Lakewood Theatre’s(1825 Abrams) bi-monthly Viva Dallas Burlesque show presents Dirty Sexy Funny at 9 p.m. Friday, wherein the ladies of the “largest burlesque show in Texas” will bust out their bawdiest comedy routines in a setting that exists solely for the sake of gawking at exposed flesh. Five bucks says you’ll hear Tom Waits’ “Pasties and a G-String” at some point but don’t let that keep you away. Cheap seats start at $20 bucks. Things get a little blue so admittance is adults only.
