The road to hell may be paved with good intentions, but author Sue Ellen Hanning covered the road to the real Italy while carrying a bulging backpack and no credit cards. Hanning was a 54-year-old teacher and mom when she and her daughter Jenny went on a three-month search for the “real Italy.” Thankfully, it was an adventure she survived and lived to write a book about. We always raise an eyebrow when people start talking about finding the “real” anything, but this mother-daughter team seems to have thrown themselves into the experience. It makes for an entertaining read and an interesting story.
