With this in mind there’s a certain relish in seeing remakes and adaptations: finding the things that change, things that skew slightly and the things that keep biting people in the ass time and again. Like accidentally sleeping with your mom. The Dallas Theater Center is returning to the Studio Theatre at Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre, 2400 Flora St., with Oedipus el Rey, written by MacArthur Genius Foundation Fellow Luis Alfaro. The modern reimagining sets the story of Oedipus in the barrios of Los Angeles amidst drugs and varying degrees of violence. The stage is designed like an arena to immerse the audience in the activity with a small and intimate cast. Tickets for all but opening night (January 16) are $100 (though only $15 for “youth”).
