Yes, it’s time for the annual Kartoffel Festival. If you weren’t aware of it, kartoffel is German for men’s lingerine. No wait, that’s lederhosen. A kartoffel is a potato. And potatoes apparently are a big part of German cuisine. If you’re into good food with weird names you owe it to yourself to go. The Kartoffel Festival offers food samplings, door prizes, a cooking seminar and a potato roll for the kiddies. There’s also a “Kartoffel Recipe” contest which will give awards for the best hot potato recipe, best cold potato salad recipe and best in show. And don’t worry, of course there will be traditional accordion music. Whew! The Kartoffel Festival will be held at the GermanDeli.com’s outlet store, 2890 Market Loop in Southlake, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The event is free and open to the public. Call 817-410-9955.

Sun., Aug. 12, 12-6 p.m.
