My overriding memories from Giza’s pyramids are of sweating profusely under an enormous, life-sucking sun, attempting to keep my eyes clear of vast quantities of dust, and fending off swarms of relentless vendors hawking tours and mementos. Sure, it was cool to see the towering wonders of the world and experience the chaos and romance of modern-day Cairo, but I’d say an evening at the Dallas Museum of Art’s Tutankhamun, The Golden Age of the Pharaohs, would be infinitely easier, cheaper and more comfortable. And this month’s Late Night at the DMA takes place Friday from 6 p.m. to midnight, with an unusual array of offerings for the kiddies: a chance to meet best-selling childrens illustrator Judy Schachner (author of Skippyjon Jones in Mummy Trouble), along with talks on animals in Egyptian art, storytelling and the opportunity to hunt for treasure among the museum’s collections.
