In my upcoming art appreciation course, I expect to learn a few things. As an art newbie, I’m more accepting of “traditional” art, and I can’t seem to wrap my mind around the idea of “digital art paintings.” When I think of paint, I imagine a viscous, pigmented medium like gouache or acrylic paints, and as a rule of thumb, my digital toys need to be kept at a distance from paint. But local artist Jeanne Sturdevant is here to give me my first art lesson and prove me wrong with her abstract digital paintings in the exhibit Layered Journeys. Gallery hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from noon to 6 p.m. This is your last chance to catch Layered Journeys, which closes Saturday, at the Bath House Cultural Center, 521 E. Lawther Drive. Admission is free to the public. Call 214-670-8749 or visit bathhousecultural.com.

Fri., Jan. 2, 12-6 p.m.; Sat., Jan. 3, 12-6 p.m., 2009
