Some comedians like their own jokes so much they crack themselves up onstage. Then comes Academy Award winner Steven Wright, who not only seems to miss the humor of his own material but seems to be downright depressed and incapable of seeing any humor at all. Wright came to light back in 1985 when he released the comedy CD I Have a Pony, which was nominated for a Grammy and was the subject of a HBO special that same year. In 1989, he won the Oscar for his short film, The Appointments of Dennis Jennings, which co-starred comedian Rowan Atkinson. Probably best-known for his recurring role on Mad About You, Wright did another comedy special in 1990 but has remained largely absent from the public eye. Last year, fearing that he’d only be remembered as the guy in the movie Half Baked, he produced another stand-up special for Comedy Central and recorded the just-released CD I Still Have a Pony. Touring in support of the album, Wright can be seen 8 p.m. Sunday at the Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm St. Tickets are $40; be prepared to tell him another word for “thesaurus.” Call 214-272-8000 or visit ticketmaster.com.
