What better way to celebrate freedom than by gathering in a field with thousands of the very people that are helping to ruin it for the rest of us?! This Saturday, KLTY presents Celebrate Freedom 2006, billed as “the largest free outdoor concert in America” and featuring a slew of contemporary Christian “artists” (read: musicians who didn’t have the chops or the songs to make it in secular music), including The Afters, Big Daddy Weave, Kutless, Mercy Me and Michael W. Smith. Judging from the promotional photos, there will be plenty of peroxide on hand, as well as a skate park, a rock-climbing wall, a fireworks show, the Chick-Fil-A blimp and “the largest water slide in the state of Texas.” If you thought the crowd at the last jam band show you attended smelled a little ripe, just wait till you get a whiff of the B.O. cloud emanating from thousands of sun-baked worshippers raising their hands to the intelligent designer (because apparently the Holy Spirit is most easily received through the armpits). Concerts begin at 8:30 a.m. (everyone knows the Devil sleeps in most Saturdays) at Southfork Ranch, 3700 Hogge Road in Parker. Tickets are free and available at all area Chick-Fil-A, Care Now and Compass Bank locations. Visit klty.com/celebratefreedom/index.htm.
