If you’re going through your New Year’s Eve photos and spot in them a besotted Dirk Nowitzki–or any other Maverick, at that–don’t worry about it. The team doesn’t have Friday off, but it might as well. It’s a home game against a sub-.500 Eastern Conference team saddled with an interim coach (after firing Mo Cheeks) and Elton Brand as its woefully underperforming star. Even if every Maverick has a puking, sweating, swear-to-God-I’ll-never-drink-again hangover, they should pound the Philadelphia 76ers. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m. at the American Airlines Center.
