Typically, we’ll hear about a woman on an inner voyage to discover her identity in a new land and file it somewhere on the scale between tired feminism and an indulgent cliche. But the Valley House Gallery insists that it’s art–and inspiring, opportunistic art at that. Israeli-born artist Hadar Sobol’s new exhibition at the Valley House Gallery, Kaios, derives its title from the Greek word that, according to Wikipedia, means “the right or opportune moment.” It’s a collection of pieces in muted, earthy tones that use thread and drawing to communicate her personal voyage. And her pain–artists are usually in a lot of pain, and Sobol’s is particularly lovely. Kaios is on display from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays until October 2 at the gallery, 6616 Spring Valley Road. Visit valleyhouse.com.
Mondays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: Sept. 18. Continues through Oct. 2, 2010
