The super-mellow sounds of the pop music sub-genre AM Gold reached a fever pitch as the 1970s came to a close. However, two of its biggest stars didn’t make their mark until the early 1980s, putting a musical exclamation point on the previous decade. Australia’s Air Supply was an unfathomably laidback hit machine, having 10 singles in the top 10 between 1980 and 1985. The torch that smoldered in their music was one of love. They loved to sing, they loved women, they loved love. They were maybe the last, best example of pure, schmaltzy love rock before new wave and metal smothered the ailing genre to death in its sleep. Now just when you thought you were “All Out of Love,” those love pirates from Down Under are back, and it looks like their fire is burning hotter than ever. Air Supply will perform Monday with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra–if you thought they sounded lush before, this should be a performance you can swim in. They’ll be joined by fellow early ’80s mellow merchant, Christopher Cross. He’s in town to make sure you don’t get caught between the moon and New York City. Remaining tickets are $43 to $55.
