Short films always get the corresponding end of the stick come Oscar time, struggling for any attention while the people that toiled to make them have to dress up and endure the speeches of actors and actresses who, more often than not, shouldn’t be allowed to talk without a script. Considering the impressive artistry that goes into these short films, it’s a real shame hardly anyone outside the film community gets to see them. This year, Magnolia Pictures had the bright idea of packaging the Oscar-nominated shorts together, giving the public a long-overdue chance to see why the category exists in the first place. The 81-minute live-action program includes all five nominees, including Six Shooter, the Sundance Channel-produced short that took home the naked little golden boy earlier this month. Considering it’s only slightly longer than that TiVo’d episode of American Idol you were planning to watch this weekend, perhaps you should consider an upgrade and take in the program at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St. Showtimes are 6 p.m and 8 p.m. Friday, 5 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday.
