Of course England’s Alan Ayckbourn knows a thing or two about suspense and drama. He’s directed plays by greats Anton Chekov, Noel Coward, Neil Simon…and himself. Yeah, he’s written a thing or two or 100. And he certainly knows how to take a seemingly unthreatening thing like a sunlight garden and make it turn into something a touch more sinister—something he does in Snake in the Grass. Two sisters get more than just the expected humor and familial drama as they face those good ol’ childhood memories (or shall we call them haunts) after their father’s death in Ayckbourn’s edgy, provocative and sinister play. Fort Worth’s Circle Theatre takes on the terrifying twists and a number of incredibly creepy and traumatic turns as they tackle that Snake in the Grass. (The show contains a great deal of adult content. Think abuse, inhumane behavior, evildoing and more abuse.)
